Seann William Scott has played many engaging characters, but he’ll probably be best remembered for Steve Stiffler from the “American Pie” franchise. Stiffler is a loudmouth, party animal and all-around showoff. On the other hand, he so often receives strong comeuppances for his uncouth ways that many audience members feel sorry for him, as when he drinks a beer not realizing it contains an extremely disgusting ingredient.

Another great Scott character is Chester Greenburg from “Dude, Where’s My Car?” (2000).Didn’t catch that? This explains it. Greenburg is a genial slacker and stoner with an astoundingly low IQ and a strong sex obsession. He’s the best friend of Jesse Montgomery III, played by Ashton Kutcher, and the film revolves around the moronic pair’s quest to find Jesse’s missing automobile.

A third memorable Scott role is Anson Wheeler from “Role Models” (2008). Wheeler is a KISS-loving, self-satisfied energy drink salesman who, along with his pal Danny (played by Paul Rudd), is sentenced to community service. He’s then matched up with a boy in a mentoring program. In classic comedic fashion, Wheeler learns to be a better person in the process of trying to inspire this kid, who at first has no desire to spend time with Wheeler.

Seann William Scott played E.L. in the movie and has went on to have roles in “Evolution” (2001), “The Rundown” (2003), “Bulletproof Monk” (2004), “The Dukes of Hazzard” (2005), “Southland Tales” (2006), “Mr Woodcock” (2007), “Goon” (2011) and his latest venture, “American Reunion” (2012). In March 2012, he became engaged to former Victoria’s Secret model, Lindsay Frimodt.

The third friend, Rubin, was played by Paulo Costanzo. The Canadian actor went on to star in “Joey” (2004) and also won People Magazine’s choice award in 2005 for his work on that series.

DJ Qualls got his debut in the film, “Road Trip,” after he auditioned in Atlanta. Qualls went on to star in Cherry Falls (2004) with Brittany Murphy and Jay Mohr and was also a model for Prada and Calvin Klein.

Todd Phillips really hit the mark with this movie. It may because he has a little experience on the road himself. He had to tour extensively with ephemeral rock bank Phish while he directed the documentary about a year with the band called Bittersweet Hotel. The casting of the movie didn’t hurt either. The best move was cast DJ Qualls as the nerdy, virgin character who the boys only need for the trip because he has a car. If you like movies about the road there is no better choice than Road Trip.

1. Water. Whether you pack bottles or a thermos, you will appreciate the ability to have a drink without making a stop.

2. Snacks. Convenience stores are notoriously expensive and stocked with unhealthy snacks. Take your own for a healthy, cheaper alternative.

3. Map of fun locations on the way. Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here . Make your trip as much about the journey as the destination.

4. Car entertainment. Whether you have movies, books, or just some car games, you need to keep the kids (and kids at heart) entertained to avoid hearing, “Are we there yet?” for hours.

5. Pillow. Just in case you need a nap.

6. Sweater. Avoid fights over who gets to control the temperature inside the car.

7. Camera. You never know what you will see!

8. Cash. You never know when credit card machines will be down.

9. First aid kit. Your car should never be without.

10. Spare tire/car first aid kit. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
